Joint Mobilization

Joint mobilization is a manual therapy intervention, a type of straight-lined, passive movement of a skeletal joint that addresses arthrokinematic joint motion rather than osteokinematic joint motion. It is usually aimed at a ‘target’ synovial joint with the aim of achieving a therapeutic effect.

What is the purpose of joint mobilization?

Joint mobilization techniques can be performed not only to restore motion but also to provide a neurophysiologic effect that reduces pain and muscle spasms.

What are the types of mobilization?

Here are examples of mobilisations of joints of the body:

  • Elbow Mobilizations
  • Wrist/Hand Mobilizations
  • Hip Mobilizations
  • Knee Mobilizations
  • Ankle and Foot Mobilisations
  • Spinal_Manipulation
  • Shoulder Mobilizations and Manipulation
  • Cervicothoracic Manipulation
Joint mobilization benefits:

Joint mobilization can improve range of motion, reduce pain, and improve the mechanics of a joint to help with things such as lifting your arm, bending your spine, or walking.

5 ways to mobilise your body:
  • Lumbar Opening Stretch
  • Child Pose
  • Neck – Lateral Flexion Stretch
  • Gluteal Stretch
  • Foam Rolling – Mid to Upper Back
